Happy Holidays & Happy 2 Month Birthday Jake!

I can't believe 2 months is here already! Is it just me or does everyone in my family enjoy celebrating my birthdays! First, I come home from the hospital at the end of October, our house is all decorated with black and orange, everyone I know is dressed up in a costume, and kids are ringing our doorbell for candy. Grandpa, Bubie, Aunt Traci, Uncle Ken, and David and Grey were all over for the festivities. On my 1 month birthday it was all about football, a Macy's day parade, and a pretty good looking dinner. Grandma V was here and everyone was talking about how "thankful" they were (pretty obvious they were thankful that I was turning 1 month old).
2-months old and I'm looking at a tree inside our house for crying out loud! This thing is about 9 feet tall with lights and decorations all over it. Presents and food for everyone in sight. This party included Grandma V, Aunt Traci, Uncle Ken, and David and Grey all came back. I can get used to this! Another pretty good looking dinner, come to think of it, it looked very similar to that of my 1 month old party. And "supposedly" an old man with a white beard even came down our chimney to give me presents (via a sled with reindeer). I can't wait to see what my 3-month birtday is all about!

Well, here's an update for my mom's notes for the baby book: I'm smiling now! As of 6 and 1/2 weeks I love to look at all of you silly people who make fools of yourself not realizing I only smile to make you feel good. They still can't catch me in the act with the camera.What did December entail? Well, LOTS of pictures for our holiday card. Too many pictures if you ask me. Wilken and I realized that my parents are not professional photographers. In fact, they are far from it. Take this next picture, for example. Dad put baby food on his foot to attract our cats into the pictures. We got several automatic pictures of "beautiful" cat butts.
It should be obvious why I don't look happy to be here. What is this, wrestle mania? I can't even roll over yet. Get this kid off of me!What the heck is this? I look like I'm dead.Santa's evil elves strike again.I'm blurry mom and dad. And Wilken's yelling is bursting my eardrums!
The blood is rushing to my head. Please turn me right-side up.This is a winner, although we're missing Mom and I am not looking at the camera. Not that I can see that far yet.

Wilken had a very busy December. Bubie and Grandpa came to visit which really helped my parents out a lot.We went to Legoland with them and Wilken's best buddy Rory. Wilken got to spend a lot of time with Rory. Mommy and daddy thought this picture was too cute and had to go into the post. This was soon after they saw each other for the first time in a few days...CUTE!
There were lots of holiday preparations in December. It was exhausting! Wilken decorated cookies with his Aunt Traci. How cool are those frosting colors? Thanks again Aunt Traci for all of those Fridays. Mom told me to say that. I haven't even been around for that many Fridays.
Grandma V came for Christmas and stayed with us to help out again. Wilken was being very silly in his "boat" (dirty trashcan).Wilken opened all of my presents, and played with them. Very unfair to do in front of someone who can't move yet. I'll have my day. All of the boys got Charger's jerseys. I did too, but it is too big. Daddy also got one, but since he isn't kid (he may think he is) he couldn't be in the picture.Wilken had a blast as he got double the load of presents if you count mine. Santa Claus even fixed the hand-me-down jeep given to us by our neighbors.

All in all, it was a fabulous second month, first Christmas for me, and third for my big bro.

Wilken's Wonderful Wisecracks

Every parent talks of those funny phrases or sayings their child(ren) say while growing up. Some of those things we remember and some of those things we wish we remembered. Since we don't want to forget, we thought we'd do a quick blog reminding us and Wilken of some of those funny things he used to say. He are some of these moments in no particular order:

1.

Ryan and Wilken were driving on their way to Little Gym for their weekly Tuesday night class. They drove by the local high school football field where they went to Wilken's cousin David's Pop Warner football game and Wilken said "David play football dare". Daddy said "yes, would you like to play football like your cousin David some day?" Wilken responded "I pay football when I be big boy. I pay baseball when I big boy. I pay soccer when I big boy." It was silent for a moment longer before Wilken continued, "When I be big, I drink grown-up drinks!"

2.

When outside with Wilken, a neighbor asked Wilken how he liked being a big brother. Wilken said "good". When the neighbor asked "how is your little brother doing?" Wilken responded, "Baby Jake is fussy."

3.

Every morning Wilken likes to have hot chocolate milk (perhaps influenced by Mommy and Daddy's need for coffee in the AM). We like to get Wilken's diaper changed first thing when we come downstairs. Since there's been a little resistance to change his diaper first thing in the morning as of late, yesterday Daddy threw out "we have to change your diaper first, then have your chocolate milk." These types of bribes work great with Wilken. Since yesterday was the first time Ryan said that, he didn't much think twice about it. This morning we came downstairs and Daddy said are you ready for your chocolate milk? Wilken said "Change diaper first, then have chocolate milk."

4.

Our friend Becky called the other day to check in with Elanor. All of a sudden Elanor's voice inflection changed and Ryan could tell she was talking to Rory in her "kid voice". Wilken immediately looked at Daddy across the dinner table and happily announced "That my friend Rory!"

5.

Wilken came oddly strolling down the stairs due to holding something against his crotch. Words were muttered to himself but unable to be deciphered. Elanor approached him noticing that he was holding Daddy's sports cup between his legs. As she laughed she said "what are you saying?" Wilken stopped, looked at her, and repeated, "I getting ready for baseball!"

6.
We've done our best to hold off on TV as long as we could with Wilken. Dora The Explorer put a sudden end to that stage. He was absolutely hooked on Dora for weeks and one day asked for TV in the middle of the bright sunny day. Elanor rebutted "Maybe later." Wilken responded "Maybe NOW!"

7.
One of Elanor's common phrases when Wilken is dawdling is "you're killin' me Wilken". On that note, Elanor was taking Wilken and Jake for a walk one day. As he was trying to buckle his own seat belt in the stroller and continuing to fail, he all of a sudden blurted out "You killing me Mommy!"

8.
Wilken had been playing with his cars in the dirt (old garden) outside. He came in to wash his muddy cars on a step stool at the kitchen sink. After getting wet and cold he asked to lay on a towel in the sun (something we used to do after swimming or getting wet in the summer to warm him up). He later asked (urgently demanded) for Mommy (who was soothing a very fussy Jake) to straighten his towel so he could sunbathe again. Mommy told Wilken that she was busy with Jake and commented how he wasn't even wet anymore. Wilken ran to the sink, climbed on the step stool, and sprayed water on his chest. He ran back out to Elanor and said, " See! Now I wet!"

Finale.

Here are some of our favorite words of his:

Spaghetti = Bisgetti
Desert = Gesert
Myself = By be-self
