Another Weekend in Bakersfield

I know, I know. I can't seem to get enough of the armpit of California. It has been quite a weekend with a portion of my fan club in my mommy's good old home town. On Thursday, my mommy and I drove up to Bakersfield to help entertain my Grandpa after foot surgery because as you all know, I am incredibly funny and I love to be the center of attention. On Friday, my Aunt and Uncle and their dog came and we had a family reunion. My daddy couldn't come, because he had to work and said something about sleeping in and having a little vacation himself. I am not sure what all that means as I am sure he is devasted and very bored without me, the center of his universe, around to keep him company. Who needs sleep? So anyway, even though we all missed my daddy, we had quite a bit of fun. I love hanging out with so many people who like to play with me. I think my Uncle Nate is very funny, but for some reason, when he says he is "coming to get me," it is a little scarier than when my mommy or daddy say it.

I discovered my new favorite activity. Watering the grass? Okay, so really I just like dumping bowls of water all over myself and drinking out the hose. What a great activity for a hot day. What happens after you drink out of a garden hose for 40 minutes? You have a diaper that ways a ton 3 hours later! Wow.

I also have been working on my walking skills for quite some time. Here I am commuting to my "work" station (toys) at my Bubie and Grandpa's.

That's all for now. Can't wait for the next visit, but I am really excited to get back home to see my daddy.

Happy 1st Birthday!

Well it is official. We have a one-year old (ya know, the big "0-1", a 52-weeker...)! Not quite a toddler, as Wilken is still reluctant to walk. The little speedster continues to perfect his crawl. He is fast and he is agile. He crawls backwards to climb off of most pieces of furniture and can go down several steps. He has quite the little wiggle of his behind and he propels himself wherever he desires, unless confronted by those confounded baby gates. His mommy, in particular, is not in any hurry to have Wilken walk knowing that the injuries will undoubtedly double, and she can still call him her baby.
He continues to develop his communication skills as he says "bup" for up, signs "more," and can answer (with some prompting) a series of questions: What does the dog say? "Uh, Uh, Uh." What does the cow say? "MMMM." What does the kitty cat say? He replies with a soft little squeak.
A Seis De Mayo celebration was held for family and a few of Wil's buddies in honor of his big day. Why Seis De Mayo? Well it was actually the only weekend that all of his family could be present, but it made for quite the fiesta. The crowd indulged in Mexican food and refreshments. Even Wilken had his first experience with Mexican cerveza (not really, just his daddy stirring the pot)! Fun was had by all, and Wilken LOVED being the center of attention.

Hanging with Friends

I had an eventful week (okay it was several weeks ago). Not only did I go to play group, but I also spent quality time with two of my my best buds from county, Rory and Bryce.

Rory and I had a great time playing at the park. I crawled around in the sand and kept trying to eat leaves while she expericed the park swing for the very first time. Then Rory's mommy made my mommy look really bad by cooking dinner. What...mommies cook? Just kidding. But that basil breaded chicken with tomatoes was yummy...much fancier than my usual fare of quesadillas and grilled cheese. I then visited with my buddy Bryce. He is just itching to start crawling. Right now I can sneak up on him whenever I want and try to wrestle him which takes a lot of supervision by my watchful mom.

We had a great time with our daddies at the park while our moms took a trip to the nail salon. The highlight of the day? Crawling in and out of their dog's door. What a blast.

Oh yeah. Bryce and I had fun splashing around in the bathtub too.

Traveling Fool

I have been traveling like a mad man these days. Really mom and dad, if you want me to sleep regularly, you need to stop dragging me around from place to place. Just kidding. I LOVE new places and had such a fabulous time on my various trips.

In March, I went to Palm Desert to see my Grandma V and Armen. I had a great time exploring my Grandma's new place. Here I am with Armen and Grandma V on her patio overlooking the golf course. It is a really cheap trick that there is a massive park in her backyard that I can't crawl on! Who's worried about a few flying golf balls? In April, I went to Bakersfield for my mommy's junior high/highschool friend's wedding. I had a great time hanging with my buddies Zachary, Aden, Rory, Michael, and Brandon. I love getting to see all of the babies when I go to my Bubie and Grandpa's. Here is a shot of me with Rory and Zachary playing ball.I also had a great time in the backyard destroying my Bubie's flowers.

It was a first for me as my Bubie and Grandpa watched me at night while my parents went to the wedding. My parents had a whole 3 hours to themselves! I did famously until about 8:00 when I realized mom was not there. I cried periodically and crawled around looking for her. I could not fall asleep until she got home at 9:00 to put me to bed. But on the bright side, I found a new place to play.

I also have a new favorite means to travel the world...on either my mommy's or daddy's shoulders.

In April, we headed out of the US of A to Mexico for my first trip out of the country. I loved hanging out with my parent's friends Jen and Ryan, and I really loved spending time with "Auntie" Jen who entertained me a lot during the trip. My dad rode 50 miles on his bike with Ryan after 12 days of training. He is a nut! He said he felt okay, but his butt was REALLY sore. We had a great time swimming, crawling around the hotel grounds, and making mommy nervous by inching towards huge openings on the hotel balconies. The food was terrific! I was so worn out by so much fun, I actually slept 7 hours straight giving my mommy and daddy a few 6 hours in a row...a first for me since I was 3 months old! Yippee for them!

That's all for now. I'm happy to be home and continue to keep my parent's on their toes. Guess what? I turn 1 in 2 weeks!!
